PHOENIX -- University of Phoenix is getting a jump on Memorial Day, creating a uniquely lovely display to honor those who have served in the military and those who continue to fight for our country.

On the lawn, thousands of U.S. flags are arranged to spell out the word "remember," which goes to the heart of what Memorial Day is really about.

"We want to do something to honor those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice," University of Phoenix vice president Mike Bibbee said Wednesday morning. "We've been doing this for about four years now."

"When we take these flags down Friday morning, they'll be donated to the National Cemetery, which will distribute them to veterans' cemeteries across the state," Bibbee continued.

Boy Scouts and other groups will plant those flags on the graves of Arizona's sons and daughters who gave their lives for our country and her people.

University of Phoenix also made a monetary donation to the Folds of Honor Foundation, which assists spouses and children of soldiers killed or disabled while serving our country.

"We provide healing, hope and an opportunity for dreams to be realized," reads the organization's website.

The flag display at University of Phoenix will be up through Friday morning. University of Phoenix is located at 4045 S. Riverpoint Parkway, off Interstate 10 and University Drive.
