MESA, Ariz. -- It was a bad start to the day for Mesa resident Jordan Shultz.
Shultz's 2005 V.W. sedan one of five vehicles torched and destroyed Tuesday night in a tightly packed corner of Mesa full of condos and apartments near Dobson and University.
"It just really blows my mind," Shultz said as she stood in a parking lot surveying the scorched and melted mess that was once her car. "Never thought that would happen."
But according to Mesa police Sgt. Steve Berry, it happened to a total of five vehicles in the same Mesa neighborhood starting at about 12:30am.
"This person was apparently going from location to location and setting these vehicle on fire," Berry said.
It is a scenario strikingly similar to a string of auto arsons two months ago when four cars in Mesa and two in Chandler were set ablaze in one busy night for first responders.
"That's something we are certainly looking into," Berry said.
Police did release a suspect description. The person is described as a white male, about 6 feet tall and wearing some sort of jacket.
