PHOENIX -- Phoenix firefighters assisted three people who became overheated while hiking Camelback Mountain on Sunday.

The Phoenix Fire Department responded to Echo Canyon Trail around 2:40 p.m. and found a woman in her 40s exhibiting signs of heat exhaustion. Phoenix Fire Capt. Ruben Saavedra said the woman was about 1,500 feet up the trail and had run out of water.

Firefighters gave her fluids and helped her walk down to a flat area, where she was then placed in a big wheel basket.

The woman was evaluated at the bottom of the mountain and requested to go home with her family, Saavedra said.

While helping the woman down the trail, two other hikers became overheated and required medical evaluation. One hiker was transported to a local hospital.
