PHOENIX -- Investigators are trying to determine what sparked a fire in an empty model apartment.
It happened at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday at Presidio North in the neighborhood of 11th Avenue and Bell Road in Phoenix.
Firefighters believe it started in the back bedroom. Crews quickly knocked down the flames, curbing the fire's spread and minimizing the damage.
"It looked like the fire had blasted the screen out and the glass was broken," Presidio North resident Justin Henley said. He's the one who first spotted the fire.
Because the apartment was an empty model, investigators labeled the fire suspicious.
They are trying to determine if the fire was set deliberately. Neighbors say the lights were always on in the unit, so there is also the possibility that an electrical problem might have sparked the fire.
No injuries were reported.
