WILLCOX, Ariz. – A family had to be rescued Thursday after their vehicle became stuck in a flooded wash north of Willcox.

The parents and two children were at their home off of Old Stewart Road when it started raining. The storm flooded their house so they headed to their vehicle, according to the Cochise County Sheriff's Office.

They began to drive toward Willcox when the roadway flooded and the vehicle became stranded.

The Cochise County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue team responded to a 911 call from the father and located the family's 1996 Hummer in the middle of Old Stewart Road with approximately 4 feet of water running over it.

The team members tied a rope between a rescue vehicle and the stranded SUV before getting two female juveniles to safety, according to sheriff's spokeswoman Carol Capas. They then assisted the husband and wife out of the water.

The family was reportedly in the vehicle for approximately 45 minutes to one hour while waiting for rescue personnel.

No one was injured.
