TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- The family of the youngest victim of the Tucson mass shooting last year is behind a project to teach children about Sept. 11, 2001.

Christina-Taylor Green's family has donated a free "9/12 Generation Project" to every public middle school in Arizona and New York City plus one public middle school in every state.

The project is designed to educate students about the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the East Coast and focus on the positive aspects of service and volunteerism that emerged from the tragedy.

Christina-Taylor was born on Sept. 11, 2001. She was among six people killed on Jan. 8, 2011, when a gunman opened fire at a Tucson grocery store where then-Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was holding an event. Thirteen others, including Giffords, were injured.
