PHOENIX -- Less than two weeks before Christmas, a house fire has displaced a West Valley family of eight.

Shortly after 11:00 a.m. Thursday, the Phoenix Fire Department responded to a house fire near 17th Ave and Thunderbird Rd.

Fire units arrived on scene to fine heavy fire and smoke pouring from the rear of the house.

Residents told fire crews that they smelled smoke and saw fire in the back of the house. The family immediately evacuated the home and waited for fire units to arrive.

Fire crews had a tough time fighting this blaze, due to the amount of fire and hidden fire located in concealed spaces.

Now, eight people, including four children, are displaced. The family is working with the Phoenix Fire Crisis team and the Red Cross.

No one was hurt in the fire. Investigators are  working to determine the cause.
