PEORIA, Ariz. -- Four people are lucky to be alive after a fire gutted the garage attached to their home early Friday morning.

It happened just after 2 a.m. in the area of 77th Avenue and Thunderbird Road in Peoria.

The door from the garage to the home was open. A family member saw smoke and hustled everyone outside to safety.

Firefighters do not believe there were any working smoke detectors in the house. Firefighters all over the country agree that installing working smoke detectors is one of the best things you can do to protect your family.

Fire crews arrived quickly and knocked down the flames, containing most of the damage to the garage.

Investigators are trying to determine what sparked the fire.

No injuries were reported.
