SAN ANGELO – Another FLDS member has been sentenced after having been found guilty of sexual assault of a child.
Merril Leroy Jessop, 35, was sentenced to 75 years behind bars and must pay a fine of $10,000.
Jessop is a member of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which practices polygamy, and the latest to be sentenced in a series of trials involving male FLDS members following the federal raid on their El Dorado compound. Jessop is a follower of self-described prophet Warren Jeffs.
Jessop’s father, Merril Jessop Sr. has been indicted and is awaiting trial. He is responsible for the day-to-day operations at the FLDS compound in Texas.
