MESA, Ariz. -- An elderly woman found wandering in a Mesa neighborhood is once again safe at home with her family.
The woman was spotted Monday morning walking barefoot through a neighborhood near Southern and Hawes. She was wearing a blue sweater and no pants. She couldn't remember where she lived, or what her last name was. All that she could tell police was that her name was Norma.
"It''s really difficulty with people with dementia," says Landato. "You can't always rely on what they're telling you because they are disoriented."
Police say around 6:00 a.m., the woman knocked on the door of one residence, apparently believing it was her home. Unfortunately, no one in the neighborhood recognized the woman.
"Our concern was for her safety," says Landato.
But the story had a happy ending. Detectives were able to locate her family, and she wasreunited with her loved ones. Police say they're investigating the circumstances that led to her disappearance.
