GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Glendale police are searching for the driver in a deadly hit-and-run Saturday night.
Police said Pete Rivas, 62, was crossing Bethany Home Road from north to south in an unmarked crosswalk area near 60th Avenue when he was struck by an eastbound SUV.
Police were called shortly before 11:30 p.m. and found Rivas with life-threatening injuries.
He was treated at the scene by Glendale Fire Department paramedics and transported to a local hospital where he later died.
Detectives learned that the driver failed to stop and instead drove to a Circle K at 59th Avenue and Bethany Home Road. He reportedly inspected the front of his SUV and then fled south on 59th Avenue with his male passenger.
The driver is described as a 30-year-old black man with a muscular build and short dark hair, which was possibly braided at the time.
The SUV is white with dark tinted windows and custom rims and tires.
Glendale vehicular crimes detectives are seeking the public's assistance in identifying the driver.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Glendale Police Department at 623-930-3000 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
