TEMPE, Ariz. -- Police arrested a man on Wednesday who admitted to causing a crash last month that left a 14-year-old pedestrian seriously injured.

Alexander Alcantar, 19, is facing a charge of felony hit-and-run.

Police said Alcantar was driving his wife's vehicle, a red Hyundai Elantra, on April 21 when he collided with another vehicle. The collision, at Baseline Road and Beck Ave., caused the other vehicle to spin out of control onto the sidewalk where the pedestrian was hit.

The teen pedestrian was hospitalized with extremely serious injuries.

Alcantar fled the scene, according to police. The only information obtained about the suspect vehicle was a red passenger car.

When the Vehicular Crimes Detectives arrived they began to process the scene, with little information to follow up on.

The lead detective continued to search for the vehicle everyday throughout his shift, believing the suspect probably lived in the area.

The detective went through the neighborhood looking for a red passenger car with front end damage.

Last week the detective located the vehicle and with continued follow up Alcantar was located and admitted his involvement to the hit-and-run.
