PHOENIX -- A driverless pickup truck plowed into the bedroom of a Phoenix apartment early Monday morning.

It happened at about 4 a.m. in the neighborhood just southwest of 19th and Northern avenues.

The owner of the truck, who lives up the street from the apartment, said she put the truck into park, but it slipped into gear and started to roll.

The owner reportedly tried to stop the truck, but was not able to. Witnesses reported seeing people running behind the truck.

The pickup rolled up onto the sidewalk, through a small fence and through the bedroom wall of the apartment. A husband and wife were asleep in that bedroom.

"It's a lot of damage for a single truck without no driver," Carlos Villanueva, the wife's brother, told 3TV's Ryan O'Donnell.

While the couple was desperate to check on their children, the damage blocked the way to their bedroom door. They said they had to climb through the hole left by the truck and go around to the front of their home.

No injuries were reported.

"Thank God nobody got hurt," Villanueva said. "That's what we're happy about. Material items can be replaced. Not life."

It is not clear if the owner of the runaway pickup truck will face charges.

The apartment manager said crews will clean up and make all of the necessary repairs by the end of Tuesday.
