MESA, Ariz. -- Tempe police say they have located the vehicle driven by a man wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend.

John Brazel's 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe was found unoccupied Wednesday evening in the orange groves at Thomas Road and Val Vista Drive in Mesa, police said.

The vehicle is being processed for evidence.

Police said the 33-year-old man is now in possession of a silver 2004 Dodge Ram dually truck, which he allegedly stole in Pinal County Thursday afternoon. The truck has a Washington license plate of B83943K.

"Circumstances of that theft are not ready to be released at this time, but what we do know is it was him who stole the vehicle," said Lt. Mike Pooley of the Tempe Police Department.

The Pinal County Sheriff's Office says the theft was not a carjacking; it was reported to the department's non-emergency line.

Tempe police and the U.S. Marshals Service are still actively searching for Brazel.

He is considered armed and extremely dangerous.

"When these suspects, these fugitives go on the run, they know they're wanted. They know they've committed a very serious crime. Many times, they don't stop at anything," Pooley said.

Brazel allegedly shot and killed 33-year-old Charla Faust in a domestic violence incident Tuesday afternoon at a townhome complex near Rural and Guadalupe roads. Police said Brazel also shot and wounded a neighbor who tried to intervene.

Faust was a mother to three young children.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911.

Police say Brazel is an avid camper and outdoorsman with familiarity of Arizona mountains.
