CHANDLER, Ariz. -- It is a concrete eyesore looming over area businesses, and now word that it might finally be coming down has people talking.
Elevation Chandler never really got off the ground.
What was started has just been sitting at the corner of Price and Frye roads for nearly a decade.
"When you drive by it's obviously just a huge eyesore in the area, and I think Chandler's kind of more upscale than that, so it is really kind of depressing to see that type of structure just standing there empty," Chandler resident Suzie Jonson said.
Empty, rundown, derelict -- residents and business owners have a number of ways to describe the defunct project.
"It is certainly not something when I'm trying to give directions to someone that I would mention is there," said business owner Tammy Freeman.
She owns Luv My Bling, which is located in the Chandler Village shopping center right next to the failed Elevation Chandler.
When 3TV asked what she thinks whenever she drives by it, she said, "When are they going to take that down? It's time."
That time could be quickly approaching.
The city of Chandler has recieved an application from Hines, a developer out of Houston with an office in the Valley, to purchase the property and sink $150 million into it.
They would like to build a hotel, retail spaces, offices and more.
If all goes well, construction on what Hines is calling the Chandler Viridian project would start sometime next year.
"It would be a very uplifting moment, I think, for us Chandler residents," Jonson said
For local retailers, it would be a welcome change.
"I think that with Chandler Fashion Center being on one side and Chandler Village, which is where I'm located, to have something nice in front of us for people to turn on the main street, Frye Road, would be very nice," said Freeman.
The proposal is still in its preliminary stages with a hearing in front of the planning commission scheduled for June 18. From there, it would go before the Chandler City Council in July.
