WICKENBURG -- Two California residents traveling through Arizona ended up in jail after the driver passed out in front of a Yavapai County sheriff's deputy.

A deputy pulled over a car for speeding along U.S. Highway 93 near Wickenburg on March 17.

The deputy asked the driver to step out of the car. The driver, identified as Charles Burkdoll, 26, of Concord, Calif., reportedly was not wearing a shirt and had a Bud Light drink band around his wrist.

Sheriff's spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said Burkdoll admitted smoking marijuana and snorting cocaine and then asked to sit down because he was "spinning."

When the deputy had Burkdoll stand after sitting for a moment, he passed out on the road. The deputy requested medical aid and was able to bring Burkdoll back to consciousness.

D'Evelyn said during a check of the vehicle, the deputy recovered cocaine and marijuana.

Burkdoll was later arrested for DUI and possession of drugs.

His passenger, Marjorie Calvin, 33, of San Ramon, Calif., was also arrested on drug charges.
