TEMPE, Ariz -- A sergeant with the Arizona Department of Public Safety was rushed to the hospital Friday afternoon after a collision launched his cruiser into the air, over a wall, and through a fence before it dropped about 20 feet.
It happened on Price Road at Southern Avenue right next to the Loop 101.
A DPS spokesperson said the sergeant was driving northbound on Price Road when the driver of another car made an illegal turn colliding with the officer's cruiser.
The cruiser hit a curb and sailed through the air before landing on its wheels on the embankment below.
The sergeant was not seriously injured. He went to the hospital as a precaution.
Southern Avenue was closed in both directions for a few hours while officers investigated the crash and crews worked to clear the scene.
The female driver has not been citied, but the investigation has not yet been completed.
