PHOENIX - A Department of Public Safety Officer is in critical but stable condition after being hit by a tractor-trailer near Flagstaff.

The out-of-control semi was traveling north on Interstate 17 near Munds Park south of Flagstaff when he struck Officer Kenneth J. Henshied. Henscheid had reportedly just arrived to the scene of a rollover wreck involving a van just before he was hit.

Officer Hensheid suffered multiple fractures and internal injuries at Flagstaff Medical Center. The 40-year-old officer is a veteran of 12 years at DPS.
