SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- It is all about luxury. From the business offices to the cars that gleam on the white showroom floor. That was the idea behind Couture Customs by Luxor, Sy Salari’s latest car dealership in the Valley.
It is the dealership you dream of walking in. The 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG will catch your eye immediately, if not because it sits on a pedestal in the center of the showroom for its attention-grabbing gullwing doors that give you a peak at the designo exclusive leather interior.
"The cars sell themselves," said sales associate Justin Brennen.
The unique concept is what Salari had in mind when he launched Couture Customs.
"The concept is basically a lifestyle," Salari said of his newest venture.
And the lifestyle he serves is one of expensive taste.
"Most of our customers are professional athletes and celebrities and that's kind of the clientele that we're going after. Young professionals that like cars."
The dealership was quiet when I stopped in on a Saturday. The business of selling high-end cars could be to blame, especially because luxury and exotic vehicles do not constitute a need.
The luxury dealership might sell less inventory than your more common dealership like Berge Ford in Mesa who, according to Berge Ford General Manager Jim Crutcher, sells roughly 165 new cars and 110 used cars a month.
But Couture Customs still does well when you compare their sales to the unique and often expensive cars they offer.
The website currently lists 24 available vehicles so Brennen notes, "30 a month, we'd be jamming."
And as the CEO of Luxor Auto Group, Salari has a track record that could translate well at his latest venture.
Brennen can rattle off a list of some well-known clients that have done business with Luxor in the past.
"We've sold cars to Beanie Wells, Swizz Beatz, Alicia Keys, Alfonso Smith," Brennen said.
The list went on to include multiplatinum producer Damon Elliot, Suns player Michael Beasley, and Cardinals player Ben Patrick among others.
Couture Customs will not have much to worry about as Brennen adds, "The rich are still rich."
Joe Spagnuolo called from Atlanta to inquire about a customized Porsche on Salari's Luxor eBay store online.
"My interest was in the way that car was styled, the way the car was done" said Spanuolo. "When you want a specific car it's not easy."
The Porsche was sold before Spagnuolo called, but Couture Customs is currently customizing his Porsche now and is expecting it to be finished within the week.
"I was very specific about what I wanted," Spanuolo said. He says of seeing the car, "That is the hottest looking Porsche."
And Salari adds a competitive edge to Couture aside from the thrill of driving down the street in a vehicle nobody else has.
"It typically takes about 90 days to customize it and a lot of people don't want to part with their car they they just purchased for 90 days," he said. "So we eliminate that."
Couture Customs is located in Scottsdale at 7001 East McDowell Road. For more information visit their website.
