TEMPE, Ariz. -- Tempe Police have arrested a husband and wife in connection with the murder of a Valley business owner.
Chad Norris, 33, and Tamara Norris, 31, were arrested Wednesday and booked into the Tempe City Jail for their alleged roles in the murder of 45-year-old Jason Johnson.
Johnson and Chad Norris were co-owners of Scottsdale Auto Collision Center near Priest Drive and Elliot Road in Tempe.
Johnson was last seen on September 14 at the business. A missing person report was filed with Tempe Police on September 17.
While investigating the missing person report, police learned of an altercation between Johnson and Chad Norris.
Chad and Tamara Norris were contacted about Johnson’s disappearance, but they didn’t want to cooperate with investigators.
Detectives began conducting surveillance on the couple on Tuesday. During their surveillance, investigators watched Tamara Norris drive to Scottsdale Auto Collision Center where she had seven to nine large, dark trash bags placed in her SUV.
Tamara Norris returned home and a trailer belonging to Chad Norris was attached to the SUV. The couple then drove to several locations in Phoenix over a five hour period before eventually abandoning the trailer.
A canine dog was brought in and detected something inside the trailer. Detectives obtained a search warrant and found blood, spent shell casings, and a wallet containing Johnson’s driver’s license inside the trailer.
A door with a defect similar to a gunshot was also found in the trailer. Police said that Scottsdale Auto Collision Center was missing a door with a similar design.
After leaving the trailer, Chad and Tamara Norris returned home and unloaded the trash bags into their garage.
Tamara Norris then drove to her mother's house in Tempe where she was seen taking two of the trash bags into the home.
Police would later interview Tamara Norris' mother, who said that her daughter told her that Chad Norris had done "something bad," but wouldn't go into further detail.
Police concluded that Johnson had been killed, and his body had been hidden in an unknown location.
Chad Norris was subsequently arrested for second-degree murder, while Tamara Norris has been charged with felony hindering.
Tempe Police are still trying to locate Johnson’s body. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Tempe Police non-emergency line at 480-350-8311 or Silent Witness at 480-948-6377.
