TUCSON, Ariz. -- A Bowie man with past gun convictions has been sentenced to nearly eight years in prison for illegally possessing firearms.
The U.S. Attorney's Office for Arizona says 45-year-old Robert Tapia was sentenced for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The Border Patrol and Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agents recovered 17 firearms from Tapia's southeastern Arizona residence.
Prosecutors say the guns included an AK-47 and a sawed off shotgun with the serial numbers filed off.
Tapia pleaded guilty in June.
