COCONINO COUNTY, Ariz. -- A Texas man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a woman at a Coconino County rest stop and stealing her vehicle.

Renee Cadriel, 32, was taken into custody Monday by a Las Vegas patrol officer.

About 2:30 p.m. April 9, Coconino County Sheriff's deputies and Arizona Department of Public Safety officers were dispatched to the Meteor Crater rest stop off Interstate 40 for a report of a vehicle theft and aggravated assault.

A 60-year-old woman told authorities she had stopped at the rest area while traveling from South Carolina to Northern California and a man followed her inside the women's restroom.

The man, who appeared to be concealing a firearm underneath his shirt, reportedly demanded the woman's keys and punched her in the face. She fell to the ground, and he forcibly took her keys and fled in her vehicle, according to the sheriff's office.

Sheriff's deputies and DPS officers searched for the vehicle with help from a DPS helicopter. Information about the vehicle and suspect was released to law enforcement nationwide.

On Monday, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department informed the Coconino County Sheriff's Office that a patrol officer had located the vehicle and taken the driver into custody.

Las Vegas patrol cars are equipped with tracking devices that can detect LoJack signals from stolen vehicles. The officer received a signal from the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

Cadriel, who was reportedly driving the vehicle, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle.

The sheriff's office said the woman positively identified Cadriel in photo lineup as the man who assaulted her.

He is being held on a warrant issued by the Coconino County Justice Court charging him with armed robbery, vehicle theft and assault. His bond is set at $100,000 and extradition is pending, according to the sheriff's office.
