KINGMAN, Ariz. (AP) -- A man in the northwestern Arizona town of Chloride is in custody for allegedly choking his wife and one of their dogs.
Mohave County Sheriff's officials say 45-year-old William Eldred apparently was upset by the way his wife was holding the pet Sunday.
A sheriff's report says Eldred's 48-year-old wife told deputies her husband frequently beats her and their dogs.
She says she was trimming the dog's nails when Eldred grabbed the pet and began choking it.
The woman says Eldred hit and pushed her, then grabbed her with both of his hands around the neck.
Deputies say the woman refused medical treatment.
Eldred told authorities that he lost his temper and doesn't remember choking his wife.
He's being held on suspicion of aggravated assault, animal cruelty and marijuana possession.
