PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. -- A 3-year-old boy was found wandering in Prescott Valley while his mother was reportedly home smoking marijuana.
At approximately 11 a.m. Thursday, a woman saw a child without any shoes walking across a road toward her business. She brought the boy into her store and called police.
Prescott Valley police officers were able to locate the child's home. When they went to the apartment, they reportedly smelled burning marijuana and found numerous items of drug paraphernalia.
According to police spokesman Sgt. Brandon Bonney, the child's mother, Ashley Kelley, 22, said she had been smoking marijuana with a friend in the apartment.
Bonney said the officers found a 5-month-old child in a rocker where they located a marijuana pipe.
Kelley said she was not aware that her son was missing and said he might have gone out the back door. However, police said there was no evidence to support that the child left the home that way.
Kelley's husband, Chris Mcleod, 31, was contacted and he came to the home. He reportedly admitted to possessing the marijuana.
Child Protective Services took custody of the boy.
Kelley was found to have a warrant for her arrest. She was arrested and booked into the Yavapai County Jail in Camp Verde for the warrant as well as child neglect, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Mcleod was cited and released for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
