CASA GRANDE, Ariz. -- Police in Casa Grande responded to a shoplifting call Tuesday night and arrested a suspect in a stabbing that occurred earlier in the day.

Police had been searching for Angel Luz, 21, as a suspect in the stabbing of Adam Craig Lewis, 24.

Lewis had what appeared to be numerous stab wounds when police found him inside an an apartment in the 400 block of West 10th Street at about 9:30 a.m.

Lewis was transported by ambulance to a Casa Grande hospital and then flown to a Phoenix-area hospital where he underwent surgery for his injuries. He is listed in critical condition.

At about 8:15 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting call at a Kmart store and identified the suspect as Luz. He was taken into custody without incident.

Luz was booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center and charges of aggravated assault have been forwarded to the Pinal County Attorney's Office, according to police spokesman Officer Thomas Anderson.

The motive for the stabbing is unclear at this time.
