CASA GRANDE, Ariz. -- The Pinal County Sheriff''s Office has arrested a man for homicide after he allegedly stabbed his mother to death and seriously injured her sister.

Deputies received a 911 call just before 6 p.m. on Friday regarding someone stabbing people in the 18000 block of West Camino Grande, just outside Casa Grande.

When deputies arrived on scene, they found a 63-year-old woman in the front yard with stab wounds.  They also saw another man lying on the front yard, covered in blood. This man was identified as 38-year-old Joseph Cain Cecil.

Deputies say Cecil was the suspect in this stabbing call.

When deputies went inside the home, they found 65-year-old Ronna Thomas lying on the floor with several stab wounds. She was transported to a local hospital where she later died. Thomas is the mother of the suspect, Joseph Cecil.

The other woman who was found outside of the house was Thomas' sister. She was taken to a local hospital and is being treated for her stab wounds.

Another man was in the front yard when deputies arrived. This man was a neighbor who came to the aid of the women during the stabbing attack. It was he who ran over with a shovel and struck the suspect several times, causing him to fall to the ground.

Cecil was taken into custody and is being charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder and aggravated assault.

When asked why he stabbed the women, Cecil told deputies that "God told him to."
