CASA GRANDE - A family in Casa Grande is homeless following a fire Wednesday night that destroyed their home and sent thick smoke billowing above the city.

Everyone made it out okay. The family and their pets survived the blaze but they lost almost everything inside.

One of the homeowners was inside asleep when flames first appeared at around 5:30 p.m. Rebecca Medrano explains, “The only thing I saw - curtains in the bedroom on fire."

Stunned she says she grabbed the rest of her family and their pets and ran outside to safety.

Firefighters arrived within minutes and prevented the flames from spreading to other homes.

The homeowners say they lost almost everything but saved what mattered most. Medrano says, “Besides the pets and us, camera and jewelry box."

The homeowners are surrounded by friends and family and are trying to figure out what caused the fire that destroyed their home.
