PHOENIX - The Welcome Diner was closed for business Thursday night, but that did not stop two cars from accidentally crashing through the gates.

Witnesses say the wreckage is the result of two cars swerving to avoid a collision but winding up crashing into the restaurant instead. The crash took place on Thursday evening.

The female driver of the Honda sedan was taken to an area hospital for treatment of cuts on her face. The driver of a pick-up truck was not hurt.
The retro diner is part of the Garfield Historic District at the corner of Roosevelt Avenue and north 10th Street.

According to online reviews, the diner is known for its burgers and has kept select hours in recent months.

It is still unclear how the mash-up will hurt the business.
