PHOENIX - Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer says the so-called "birther" issue is a potentially destructive issue for the United States.
Brewer first told 3TV last week that she believes President Barack Obama was born in Hawaii. She repeated those beliefs to a national audience Monday night.
Brewer appeared on CNN to elaborate on her decision to veto the bill passed by the Arizona legislature which would have required candidates to prove their U.S. citizenship.
Brewer reiterated her veto explanation that the bill was poorly drafted. She also said she believes there is no question that it was directed at President Barack Obama though it's clear he was born in Hawaii.
"It's something I think is leading our country down a path of destruction," said Brewer, "I think people need to move on. It's political rhetoric and takes the ball off subjects we should be focused on like jobs and the economy."
