PHOENIX -- A 9-year-old boy was flown to a Phoenix hospital after crashing his dirt bike in Yavapai County Tuesday night.

The boy was riding by himself in a remote area near Paulden and was not wearing a helmet, according to Rob Zazueta, a spokesman with the Chino Valley Fire Department.

Adults drove the boy to a gas station where they were met by Fire Department personnel.

Zazueta said the boy was unconscious and unresponsive. He was flown to Phoenix Children's Hospital in extremely critical condition.

His current condition is unknown.

The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office is investigating and details will be updated as they become available.
