PHOENIX -- A 1-year-old boy has died after being pulled from a Valley pool Saturday morning.

It happened at a home near 75th Avenue and Camelback Road.

“When the child was pulled from the pool, he was lifeless and not breathing,” said Phoenix Fire Capt. Jonathan Jacobs.

It is unclear how long the boy was in the water. Firefighters responded just after 11:30 a.m.

“There was some confusion amongst the family (about) exactly where the child was,” Jacobs said.

Neighbors heard screams and rushed over to the home to help. They performed CPR on the boy until the paramedics arrived.

He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“There is a pool fence that's in the back," Jacobs said. "Either the gate was left open or it was not working appropriately."

Charges have not been filed against the parents.
