LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. -- A 52-year-old man lost part of a leg in a boating accident on Lake Havasu Saturday afternoon.

The boat operator, Glenn Hatch, 63, of Anaheim Hills, Calif., was pulling up to the dock in his 42-foot twin engine Fountain boat to drop off some passengers when Stuart Boeg, 52, of Placentia, Calif., fell overboard, according to the Mohave County Sheriff's Office.

A propeller cut Boeg's leg off at the shin. Fellow passengers pulled Boeg into the boat and tied a dock line around his leg for a tourniquet.

Boeg was transported to Havasu Regional Medical Center then airlifted to University Medical Center in Las Vegas.

Lake Havasu City Fire Department personnel retrieved Boeg's severed leg.

This accident remains under investigation and alcohol is believed not to be a factor.
