TEMPE, Ariz. – A bicycle rider has died after being hit by a semitruck near Elliot Road and Priest Drive in Tempe Thursday morning.
Tempe police spokeswoman Molly Enright said the bicyclist was traveling eastbound on the north side of Elliot Road, riding against the flow of traffic, when the collision occurred.
The driver of the semitruck was making a right turn onto westbound Elliot from Harl Avenue and did not see the bicyclist, according to Enright.
Tempe firefighters provided emergency treatment at the scene and on the way to the hospital, but the bicyclist did not survive.
The victim's name has not been released at this time.
Enright said the driver of the semitruck was not impaired and there was no cause for the driver to be cited or charged.
All traffic restrictions have been lifted.
