PHOENIX -- The FBI and Phoenix Police launched a joint investigation Saturday morning after a bank employee was taken hostage.

According to the authorities, a female employee was taken hostage Friday night at her home and held by a man overnight.

The woman was then taken to the Bank of America at 48th Street and Ray Road around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.

By the time other employees arrived, the suspect had left the scene.

When police arrived they discovered that the suspect had placed some sort of device on the employee’s neck.

Bomb squad personnel was eventually able to remove the device.

"She was given instructions to get money. Instead the police were alerted and we responded," said Sgt. Tommy Thompson with Phoenix Police. "Our bomb squard came, they looked at the device and were able to remove it safely from her and determine that it was not an explosive device, it was a fake."

The suspect has yet to be located. Anyone with any information is asked to call the police.
