CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Summer vacation is over for kids in the Chandler Unified School District, it's time to get back to school. Kids and parents alike were excited to get the school year going at Hancock Elementary School.
The Chandler district is on a year-round school year, meaning they had a shorter summer vacation and more breaks during the year. Most other districts don't start for two or more weeks.
Kids arrived in large numbers before 8:30 a.m. and a long lines of cars were trying to enter and exit the school parking lot. As such, Chandler police emphasized the importance of following school zone traffic laws: 15 miles per hour speed limit, no passing and no stopping.
While some parents found saying goodbye to their children difficult, most were excited for their kids to get out of the house and get back to learning and playing with their friends.
