AVONDALE, Ariz. -- Two Goodyear residents are accused of shoplifting large amounts of copper from Valley home improvement stores then selling it to scrap yards.

Calvin Clark, 25, and Leah Lienhart, 23, were arrested Thursday morning and booked on felony theft, trafficking stolen property and organized retail theft charges.

On Oct. 24, the Avondale Police Department's Community Action Team was alerted to two shoplifting incidents at the Home Depot near Dysart Road and Interstate 10.

Through their investigation, it was determined that Clark and Lienhart allegedly stole approximately $4,500 in copper wire from Home Depot and Lowe's stores in Phoenix, Goodyear, Peoria and Avondale then sold the copper at numerous scrap metal yards across the Valley.

During the past few months, the two suspects have turned in thousands of pounds of copper wire and received several thousand dollars in proceeds, according to Avondale police spokesman Sgt. Brandon Busse.
