NOGALES, Ariz. – A Mexican man was arrested at the Nogales commercial facility near the Mexican border on suspicion of smuggling almost 7,400 pounds of marijuana into the United States, according to authorities.
Officers from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection referred Cuauhtemoc Lopez-Cabrera, 30, for additional inspection of the tractor-trailer he was driving, a release from the Department of Homeland Security said. During the inspection, a drug-sniffing dog alerted officers to drugs that were packed with tomatoes. The officers found 315 bales of marijuana, valued at almost $3.7 million.
Lopez-Cabrera, of Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, authorities said, and the drugs and tractor-trailer were seized.
