PRESCOTT, Ariz. -- Detectives in the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office have arrested Robert Reed, 59, in connection with the murder of Kristal Forest. The charge was part of a 26-count indictment for Reed.

Forest, 65 when she disappeared, was last seen with Reed in March 2009 in Camp Verde. She was in the process of moving from Cottonwood, Ariz., to Austin, Texas, but never arrived at her destination. Reed had befriended Forest and was allegedly helping her move.

Forest’s body has never been found.

Several YCSO media releases during the case have mentioned their focus on Reed’s possible involvement in Forest’s death.

Since Forest’s disappearance in 2009, lead detective Doug Brown, assisted by Cold Case Unit volunteer and retired detective, Paul Chastain, have spent hundreds of hours performing searches, following leads, and interviewing people who may have information regarding Forest, including Reed.

At the time of his arrest, Reed was serving a prison term for an unrelated issue in the Arizona Department of Corrections. He was moved to the Camp Verde Detention Center on Tuesday, Sept. 10, and is being held without bond on charges including second-degree murder, fraudulent schemes, vehicle theft, identity theft, forgery, and perjury.

Detectives are declining to share more details currently, as the investigation is still active and the next court actions are pending.
