PHOENIX --- An Arizona veteran is suffering an unfortunate case of mistaken identity.

Ivan Hurtado Lopez, who splits time between Phoenix and Tucson, shares the same name as the suspected gunman in the Fort Hood shooting.

Hours after the shooting, the wrong Lopez photo began circulating around social media. It was of Arizona's Lopez, taken while he was on a Wounded Warrior fishing trip in 2010.

"I had people Tweeting my picture, saying I was a 'piece of crap,' I was a 'monster.' ... They don't even know who I am," he told 3TV Friday night.

Phone calls came from news organizations around the world.

Lopez was able to warn his wife, Ysabel, moments before she got a call from someone asking, "Do you know your husband just shot himself?"

"I explained to everyone that I was in the Army and I was stationed (at Fort Hood), but I am not the shooter," he said.
