PHOENIX--- An Arizona real estate agent who starred on a reality television show has been told to halt his business operations by state regulators.

John Ray says he's been in the business for 22 years, and became a regular at Maricopa County foreclosure auctions.

Ray was a star of "Property Wars" on Discovery Channel, which chronicles bidding wars between competing real estate agents in Phoenix.

The Arizona Department of Real Estate issued Ray a cease and desist order in December, and accused him of operating without the proper license.

"I think it's ridiculous that someone who holds himself out there as an expert would get himself into this mess," real estate attorney Court Rich of the Rose Law Firm told 3TV.

Ray blamed it all on a mistake, and a switch of staff and brokers last year.

He has a few days left to file his appeal, and  sent 3TV this statement:

"Myself and Arizona Investors Alliance, LLC DBA Bid AZ Foreclosures immediately ceased engaging as a bidding service and started the process of becoming fully compliant with department regulations and in the process of filing a Notice of Appeal & Request for Hearing by January 6th 2014."
