PHOENIX -- An Arizona man was among the victims during Friday’s shooting at an Aurora, Colorado movie theater.

The University of Denver has released a statement confirming that Alex Teves, 24, was killed while attending a midnight showing of the blockbuster film “The Dark Knight Rises.”

Teves, who was from Phoenix, graduated from the University of Denver in June with an MA in Counseling Psychology within the Morgridge College of Education.

“The University extends its deepest condolences to his family and friends, including the many current students and faculty who knew and worked with Alex,” the University of Denver said.

Teves was one of 12 people killed when a man opened fire on a theater showing the highly-anticipated Batman film.

Police have identified the suspect as 24-year-old James Holmes. He was arrested shortly after the shooting in the movie theater’s parking lot.

Holmes is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Monday.
