PHOENIX -- The Arizona Science Center is great for kids. But many don't know that the facility offers adult activities and events as well!

One adults-only event is coming up this Saturday, August 9. This Ancient Ales, Modern Science event is all about the science behind beer.

Guests can enjoy 10 beer samples while learning the history of beer, how beer was used as currency, and how women played a role in beer.

"The old Egyptian civilization was one of the first to document the beer-making process," says Emily Gagnon of the Arizona Science Center. "Women, as part of their society role, were the beer makers and the beer brewers."

Besides tasting different brews, and enjoying specialty brews only being made for this specific event, there will be two special presentations given: "The Process of Brewing", presented by North Mountain Brewery, and "Women and Beer," presented by Mother Bunch Brewing.

The event includes:
• 10 beer-sample tasting tickets
• Presentations: The Process of Brewing and Women and Beer
• Paint like an Egyptian with Tempe's Painting with a Twist
• Access to the Center's four floors of hands-on fun including entry to the featured exhibition Lost Egypt: Ancient Secrets, Modern Science presented in the Sybil B. Harrington Galleries

And what goes better with beer than pretzels? The Mustache Pretzel Food Truck will also be on hand to serve up some delicious hot pretzels.

Participating breweries include:
• Desert Eagle Brewery
• Gordon Biersch Brewery
• Grand Canyon Brewery
• North Mountain Brewery
• O.H.S.O. nanoBrewery
• Old World Brewery
• Phoenix Ale Brewery
• Sun Up Brewery

Proceeds will support science, technology, engineering and math educational programs.

Ticket Price: $50 (21+) Members: $35. There is also a Living Social deal online, which brings the ticket price to just $25.
