SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The Scottsdale couple who shot to dubious Internet fame after a dramatic stint on "Kitchen Nightmares" in which host Gordon Ramsey walked out on them are back in the news -- as some of the worst bosses in the country.
Samy and Amy Bouzaglo of Amy's Baking Company came in at No. 6 on eBossWatch's fifth annual America's Worst Boss list. eBossWatch is a "career resource that enables people to anonymously rate their bosses and evaluate potential employers."
In May, the Bouzaglos were the buzz of the Internet. After their appearance on Fox's "Kitchen Nightmares," people flocked to Facebook to blast the couple for their behavior, particularly their poor treatment of employees, customers and Ramsey himself. Ramsey actually deemed the couple beyond his help and walked out, leaving them to their own devices.
When the comments started flowing online, the couple apparently fired back. The posts went viral, racing through social media and the blogosphere.
Amy Bouzaglo insisted the Amy's Baking Company Facebook page had been hacked, insisting that she tried to delete vitriolic posts attached to her name.
The couple closed the restaurant in the wake of the controversy, reopening several days later.
The Bouzaglos announced in October that they are giving reality TV another go -- this time with a show of their own. A channel and debut date for the new reality show have not yet been announced.
The couple seemed to take umbrage with an article in the Phoenix New Times about their inclusion on the eBossWatch list of worst bosses.
"As a matter of fact our employees love us, and we love them!" a Facebook post dated Monday reads. :We are innocent from all of these slanderous rumors. The truth will soon be told, and then the intelligent ones can choose sides. ... Thank You to all of our Supporters, you guys have been amazing and we love you too!"
Amy's Baking Company is one of two Arizona businesses on the eBossWatch's list of 50 worst bosses. Wayne Johnson and Julio Esquivel of ASARCO in Sahuarita came in at No. 36.
"The managers who made this year’s list of America’s Worst Bosses were named in workplace lawsuits filed by their employees or were accused of workplace harassment and/or sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and/or creating a hostile work environment," according to eBossWatch.com.
A panel of five workplace experts selected and ranked the bosses on eBossWatch's list.
