MESA, Ariz. - Two suspected thieves are in custody, thanks to an alert resident in Mesa. Now that man is being called a hero by his family.

"Someday I would like to become a sheriff's deputy," says 19-year-old Tyler Brage. "So my instincts were to do it."

Friday morning, Tyler says he spotted something suspicious: two young men slouched down in a parked car near his Mesa home, near Guadalupe and Ellsworth. Tyler says he had a gut feeling something wasn't right.

"I saw one guy go to the mailbox. I saw him pull something out of his sock, thinking it was like a key or something," he says. "The other kid went running down this street, like a lookout."

Tyler thought the young men might be targeting the community mailbox. So as he drove to work, he called 911. Only later did he find out from police that the pair's actual target was his uncle's home right across the street.

"They got in through a window that was unlocked, and they took a gun, safe, electronics, cameras, rings, jewelry," says Tyler's uncle, Tim Unroe.

But thanks to Tyler's call to 911, Mesa police were on the scene within minutes. Officers were able to quickly round up 18-year-old Anthony King and 22-year-old Treshon Marcellus. Officers also discovered that the duo's car was loaded with items belonging to Tyler's relatives.

"That's one of the biggest things we stress in police work," says Mesa Police Detective Steve Berry. "If you see something, say something."

"Police were telling us they don't catch people in the act very often," says Tim. "It's very rare. It's like a handful of times in the last ten years. So I definitely feel very fortunate and Tyler's a big reason for that."

Tyler says he's happy he was able to help his family. "My Uncle Tim came over that night and gave me a big old hug," Tyler smiles. "He called me his hero."
