PHOENIX -- Phoenix police are investigating the discovery of an urn that was left in front of a business last Saturday.

Sgt. Tommy Thompson said a vehicle pulled up to the gate of a business in the area of Tatum Boulevard and Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) at about 1:30 p.m.

An unidentified person got out of the car and placed a sealed funeral urn in the grass then drove away.

It is believed the car may have been a purple or blue PT Cruiser and possibly a convertible.

Thompson said it's unknown whose remains are in the urn or who the person responsible for its care may be. He said the only identifying marks are from Palm Mortuary in Las Vegas, but the name and identifying numbers on the urn have been scratched out.

"It appears to be a marble urn. It appears to be a rather expensive urn," Thompson said. "More importantly, it holds the remains of somebody in there, we believe, and we'd like to find out who that urn belongs to so that we can get it back to the proper owner."

Anyone with information about the owner of the urn is asked to contact the Phoenix Police Department at 602-262-6151 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS, 480-TESTIGO for Spanish.
