GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Traveling between Interstate 10 and Loop 303 just got easier for drivers in the Goodyear area.
The Arizona Department of Transportation opened two elevated ramps Sunday morning, providing the first direct connections between the two freeways.
One ramp connects southbound Loop 303 with eastbound I-10, and the other provides eastbound I-10 traffic with a faster route to northbound Loop 303.
The ramps are part of the $145 million Loop 303/I-10 interchange project. Construction began in November 2011, and ADOT expects to open the remaining two ramps at the interchange by September.
Gov. Jan Brewer was among the dignitaries who participated in the dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting Saturday. Local residents were able to tour the project site.
ADOT was also celebrating a series of projects to reconstruct 12 miles of Loop 303 into a six-lane freeway between the I-10 in Goodyear and Grand Avenue in Surprise.
ADOT said Loop 303 improvement projects are funded through a transportation plan approved by Maricopa County voters in 2004.
