PHOENIX -- A shocking flier called "Top Ten Ways to Get Away with Rape" made national headlines. It was posted in the men’s room at a Miami University freshman dorm.

“It’s disheartening,” said Valley resident Natalie Ehmka.

Ehmka, a victim of sexual assault, said she couldn’t believe it when she saw this flier.

“I had one drink that night with someone I didn’t know and I couldn’t remember what happened after that,” Ehmka told 3TV. “I had flashes of things. And I woke up very badly beaten up the next day.”

Ehmka was 19 years old when her life changed.

The morning after the attack, Ehmka woke up in the hospital trying to put the pieces together.

Now 27, Ehmka runs an organization called Pretty Feisty.  She takes her message of empowerment to schools all over Arizona and across the country.

“There was a time when I thought it would be easier if I wasn’t around anymore," Ehmka admitted.

“When bad things happen you can give up, give in or you can get feisty,” Ehmka tells students as part of her presentation.

The subject of sexual assault has been in the news a lot lately.

Most recently, Indiana Senate candidate Richard Mourdock came under fire for his comments that a pregnancy resulting from rape is God's will.

Thursday the embattled Senate candidate and national Republican officials said they were moving past the uproar over the comments and refocusing the political conversation on the presidential and congressional elections less than two weeks off.

But Ehmka said she is more focused than ever on her message.

“There is no crime that carries such a stigma like sexual assault does.  And that is the reason that I speak out because it is a crime,” Ehmka said. “It is never a victim’s fault.  No matter what a girl is wearing or what a guy is saying – nobody asks for it and nobody wants it.”
