Fail-proof business model bringing national attention to Arizona franchise

PHOENIX -- As business owners across the country remain reluctant to expand their workforce, one Valley company is thriving, reporting a 3,000 percent growth. 3TV caught up with a franchise manager as well as the CEO to get the background on the fail proof business model that's bringing in millions.

Erica Bouchard said taking care of her disabled daughter requires a lot of lifting. Over the years that's done a number on her back. As Bouchard explains, "It's a lot of lifting, in and out of the car, to and from school, lifting her and her wheelchair stroller in and out of the vehicle so it just takes a heavy toll on my back."

Her only relief is visiting a chiropractor once a week. But she doesn't choose just any chiropractor's office. Bouchard goes to The Joint, a relatively new franchise that's experienced unprecedented growth in just two years.

Mark Elias manages The Joint at 16th Street and Camelback Road.

"Because of the model, I mean you can walk in, it's accessible, it's affordable to the patient, you're able to come in and out, you can use any of our clinics," he said. "Wherever you go, you don't have to set up any appointments. We're finding that the more stores that we open, every store is doing better than the prior one so, it's a great model."

The model is now getting national recognition. INC, Magazine just ranked The Joint one of the country's fastest growing companies.

John Leonesio is the visionary who created the business model for The Joint.

"I knew we would grow quickly, we're a little ahead of schedule." Leonesio points out. "We haven't changed what chiropractors do, we're just changing how it's delivered to the customers."

Leonesio is no stranger to success. He founded Massage Envy and turned it into a $300 million operation in just six years.

"What we did is take out all the overhead out of the business," Leonesio said. "All the overhead was in chasing the money, the administrative costs, the insurance work, all of those things now the people can come in and pay the doctor directly and that's really the only expense."

Keeping expenses down for customers is one of the biggest draws. Members pay $49 a month for four treatments. You don't need insurance or an appointment. It's why Bouchard keeps coming back.

"To find something that's affordable, four adjustments, $49 a month, it's pretty crazy for me," she said.
