TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- Police say a 7-year-old boy is dead after gunfire rang out near his Tucson apartment complex.
They say Johnathan Federico was being cared for by a babysitter when they heard shots fired outside the complex about 12:40 a.m. Saturday.
Someone in the apartment opened the door to see what was happening and the child ran out onto the porch.
Police say the shooter and at least one other person were standing in a nearby school yard and shots were fired toward the apartment for an unknown reason.
The boy was shot and taken to a Tucson hospital, where he later died.
Police say two possible suspects have been detained. It's still unclear whether there's any relationship between the suspects and the child or the other residents at the apartment complex.
