PHOENIX -- Eight people were detained by Department of Public Safety officers during a drug transaction outside a West Phoenix Food City Tuesday morning.
It happened shortly before 7 a.m. at 91st Avenue and Thomas Road. Aerial video from Chopper 3 showed the people sitting on the ground, their hands zip-tied behind them.
According to DPS, four of the detainees are facing immigration-related charges. The other four are facing drug-related charges.
DPS spokesman Raul Garcia said investigators received a tip about a drug deal that was taking place in the store parking lot. When officers arrived on scene, the eight men tried to run. All of them were detained.
ICE took custody of four of the individuals. The other four remain in the custody of DPS.
Garcia confirmed that officers recovered nearly 100 pounds of marijuana from a vehicle.
